Novel Flattening Paste for Matting Efficiency and Improved Abrasion Resistance
The utilization of a modified water-based wax dispersion for gloss reduction can offer numerous advantages over a traditional silica matting agent. This presentation will explore the benefits both from a performance and manufacturing perspective including application data, comparing various materials used for gloss reduction.
The performance benefits include good matting efficiency, less discrepancy between 60° and 85° gloss readings and improved burnish and Taber abrasion resistance. The manufacturing benefits include ease of incorporation, greater consistency and reduced processing time. Using a water-based dispersion for gloss reduction also eliminates the need for dust containment systems and cumbersome respiratory equipment in manufacturing facilities.
This presentation will summarize the benchwork and application testing leading to the development of this new flattening paste additive.
